Ambassador Li Chao visited Saaremaa

On 8th June, Chinese Ambassador to Estonia Mr Li Chao visited Saaremaa, the largest island in Estonia.

The Ambassador met with the Mayor Madis Kallas and Chairman of the Municipality Council Tiiu Aro. The Mayor gave an overview on the economic and social development of Saaremaa as well as cooperation between Chinese and local companies. They also expressed their best wishes to Shanghai Opera House for its participation in Saaremaa Opera Festival as main guest this summer.

Ambassador Li introduced the relations between China and Estonia in recent years. “Our two countries have had fruitful cooperation in trade, investment, culture and tourism. The cooperation between Chinese and Estonian local authorities also have yielded many positive results”, said the Ambassador. He hoped that Saaremaa will establish contact with local authorities in China and have active cooperation.

The Ambassador also visited Kuressaare Gymnasium, the first school teaching mandarin in Estonia. After a brief tour, the Ambassador had a meeting with the headmaster of the school, Chinese volunteers and students who will participate in an international summer camp in Shanghai this July. The Ambassador appreciated the school for introducing Chinese language and culture to students, and donated books for the China Collection of the school library.
