Reception for 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China held in Estonia

On September 27, the Chinese Ambassador to Estonia H.E. Mr. Li Chao held a reception to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. About 350 guests attended the event, including former Estonian President Arnold Rüütel, Minister of Rural Affairs Tarmo Tamm, members of Estonia-China Parliamentary Group and guests from different sectors, ambassadors residing in Tallinn and representatives of Chinese community in Estonia.

Chinese and Estonian National anthems were played at the beginning of the reception. In his address, Ambassador Li overviewed the brilliant achievements China had made over the past 69 years since its founding in 1949, especially during the 40 years since the implementation of the reform and opening up in 1978, and stated that China will adhere to trade liberalization and continue unswervingly safeguard the multilateral trading system. Ambassador Li pointed out that last October the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has drawn a magnificent blueprint to fully build China into a great modern socialist country and embarked on a new journey to facilitate greater development synergy between China and the world. “China will continue to work with the world to create a better future for all, and actively build a community of shared future for mankind, further promote the Belt and Road Initiative, conduct in-depth exchanges with the world and learn from each other.” Ambassador Li said.

Ambassador Li emphasized that the bilateral relation was in the best period in recent years. The high-level exchange between two countries became more frequent, bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, agriculture and e-commerce had yielded heartening fruits, the enterprises of two countries had increasingly closer ties. People to people interaction between two countries have achieved new highlights with more frequent cultural and educational exchanges and dramatically increased number of tourists.

Ambassador Li highlighted Estonian President Kaljulaid’s attendance to Tianjin Summer Davos in September and the meetings held with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang respectively during Mme President’s visit to China. “Two leaders have reached on important consensus on promoting mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation, and more high-quality cultural exchange, maintaining multilateralism and strengthening cooperation in the framework of 16 Central and Eastern European Countries and China cooperation”. Ambassador Li stressed, “In the coming days, the two sides will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchanges to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, pushing our bilateral relationship to a new height.”

During the reception, the first group of 12 Chinese High School students majoring Estonian sang in a choir two Estonian popular songs , arousing great resonance among the general audience; an overseas Chinese young Gu Zheng player gained lasting applause with two Chinese classical pieces “Singing the Night among the Fishing Boats” and “Harvest Gongs and Drums”; an elaborately designed picture exhibition highlighting the new achievements of China and Estonia’s friendly exchanges and cooperation in the year and showcasing diversified natural beauty and dynamics across China attracted the audience with high interest, so as the short videos “Beautiful China” and “Progressing China”. The guests also enjoyed the sideline events presented by the Tallinn University Confucius Institute and the Guangzhou Hangxin Aviation Technology Co. LTD. All present enjoyed the warm and friendly atmosphere of the event, spoke highly of the bilateral achievements, and wished all the best for an everlasting friendship.
