On January 26, 2005, Vice President Zeng Qinghong who was paying a formal visit to Peru held talks with his Peruvian counterpart David Waisman. Both sides expressed their delight over the development of China-Peru relations and they jointly declared the establishment of a comprehensive and cooperative partnership between the two countries. Both sides made positive appraisal of bilateral relations. Zeng said with constant expansion of exchanges, increasing mutual political trust, deepening economic and trade cooperation, productive cooperation in cultural and scientific fields and close coordination in international affairs, bilateral relations have developed rapidly since the two countries established diplomatic ties 33 years ago. China would continue to work with Peru to continuously expand and deepen bilateral reciprocal cooperation so as to benefit the people of the two countries. Waisman said the friendship between Peruvian and Chinese people enjoy a long history and bilateral relations have entered into a new stage now. Peru-China cooperation is based on mutual friendship and trust. The Peruvian government is committed to domestic economic construction and social development and is expecting mutually beneficial cooperation with China in a wide range of areas. Waisman reiterated that the Peruvian government would firmly adhere to the one-China policy for which Zeng expressed his appreciations. The two sides conducted discussions on the development of future bilateral ties and reached broad consensus, such as to set up China-Peru comprehensive and cooperative partnership in a bid to promote the overall, sound and stable development of China-Peru relations, to exchange views frequently on bilateral relations and significant international issues of common concern, to push forward the sustained, balanced and sound development of bilateral economic and trade relations on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, to jointly explore cooperation channels and means in investment, technology transfer, personnel training, infrastructure construction, energy, agriculture, mining and tourism, to boost educational and cultural exchanges and understanding between the two peoples, to strengthen dialogue and communication and conduct close coordination in international affairs so as to make active contributions to jointly safeguarding the rights of developing countries and to maintaining world peace and promoting common development. Prior to the talks, Vice President Waisman accorded Vice President Zeng with a welcoming ceremony upon his arrival at the Air Force Airport of Peru. Zeng started his formal visit to Peru on January 26 after completing his official visit to Mexico. Before concluding his Mexican tour, Zeng also paid a visit to Cancun and met with the governor of the state. |
