Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo Visits Russia


At the invitation of the First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Valery Loshchinin, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo paid a visit to Russia from April 14 to 15 and held meetings and talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russian President's Assistant on Foreign Affairs Prihotko, Russian President's Human Rights Representative Lukin, first Deputy Secretary of Russian Security Council Zubakov and Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Loshchinin. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on developing bilateral relations and the major issues of common concern including the situation of CIS and central Asia, the development of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue and UN reform in a friendly and cordial atmosphere and reached wide common consensuses.

Both sides agreed that it is necessary to further enhance China-Russia strategic partnership. This year China and Russia will conduct a series of high-level exchanges and both sides will work together to make careful preparations.

The Russian side indicated the willingness to continue to firmly support the position of the Chinese government on the Taiwan question, which it takes as major step to strengthen China-Russia strategic partnership. China reiterated its resolute support for all the efforts made by the Russian government to maintain national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
