2005/11/22

On November 21, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, at invitation, attended the working dinner of the European Union (EU) diplomatic envoys in China hosted by Christopher Hum, ambassador of EU presidency country Britain to China. Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui and the diplomatic envoys of the European Commission, the 25 EU member states and two EU candidates Romania and Bulgaria were present at the dinner.

Li said that since the beginning of this year great headways have been achieved in China-EU relations. Under the current international situation, China and the EU should put greater focus on treating the bilateral relations from a strategic and global perspective and unswervingly push forward the bilatearl all-round strategic partnership. The EU side noted that since the latter half of this year the EU-China all-round strategic partnership has further developed. The 8th China-EU Summit achieves a big success and finalizes the agenda for EU-China relationship in the future. The EU attaches great importance to its relations with China and expects to make joint efforts with China to further push ahead bilateral ties.

Li also briefed the EU side about China's efforts of preventing and controlling bird flu, the 13th Informal APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
