|The Chinese and Russian Governments Hold a Meeting concerning the Holding of the Year of China in Russia and the Year of Russia in China|
On November 8 2005, the Chinese and Russian governments held a meeting concerning the celebration of the Year of China in Russia and the Year of Russia in China in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing. State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, State Councilor Chen Zhili of China and First Deputy Prime Minister Valentina Matviyenko of Russia host the meeting, at which both sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensuses.
The two sides agreed that it is a productive year for the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination. Both countries have made important progress with the cooperation in such areas as politics, economy, trade, military affairs, science and technology and conducted effective coordination and collaboration in international affairs. The level of mutual trust in politics and strategic cooperation is upgraded. The China-Russia relationship has become one of the most important strategic bilateral relations of both countries. Enhancing the strategic cooperation is the unwavering guideline of the two governments.
Both sides agreed that the decision reached by the two heads of state to hold the Year of Russia in China in 2006 and the Year of China in Russia in 2007 reflects the high level of bilateral relations. It is an important step toward the implementation of principle and spirit of the friendship and cooperation treaty, to which both sides give top priority. Through the celebration of the Year of Russia in China and the Year of China in Russia, the two countries can give extensive publicity to China-Russia friendship with the goal to enhance the friendship and trust between the two peoples, advance the pragmatic cooperation and deepen the strategic partnership of coordination.
Both sides agreed to give full consideration to the activities of the Year of Russia and the Year of China, make balanced arrangements, give play to each other's advantages and give priority to key events. The two sides should give full play to the roles of the Committee on Regular Meetings between Chinese and Russia Prime Ministers, the China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports and the Committee on Peace and Development and other mechanisms, and push for practical results in concrete cooperation areas. Such exchanges are conducive to fostering the friendly feelings between young generations. The two countries will also encourage the local and private participation and promote cooperation. The two sides will do their best to design, arrange and implement these events so as to make China-Russia neighborly friendship get deep into the hearts of the two peoples.
