Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Guterres

On March 21, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met with visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Antonio Guterres in the office building of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Li welcomed Guterres's first visit to China since the latter took office as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, indicating that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to the role of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and actively participated in international and regional cooperation in the area of refugees. It would like to further strengthen cooperation with the Office of UNHCR and push for continuous development of bilateral relations.

Guterres thanked the Chinese side for inviting him to visit China and indicated that he gave top priority to China's status as a big country, hoped that China will play a greater role in international humanitarian affairs and would like to conduct broad cooperation with the Chinese side based on mutual benefits.
