On March 21, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing sent a message of congratulations to Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Kuwait.

In the message, Li said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between both sides, bilateral friendly cooperative relations have been developing smoothly and both sides have strengthened mutual political trust, deepened cooperation in the areas of economy, trade and energy and maintained close coordination and cooperation in international affairs. He would like to make joint efforts with Mohammed to continuously push for development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

China and Kuwait announced the establishment of their diplomatic ties on March 22, 1971. Kuwait is the first Gulf country to establish diplomatic ties with China.
