Spokesperson Zhu Bangzao on Terrorist Attacks on the U.S.

2001/09/11

On 11 September, America's New York City and Washington D.C. came under severe attacks, causing huge human casualties and wound. We are greatly shocked by the incident.

The Chinese Government always condemns and opposes any violent activities by terrorism.

President Jiang Zemin sent a telegram on the same night to US President Bush to express to him and, through him, to the US Government and people, his profound sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims.

President Jiang Zemin also showed his deep concern over the safety of the staff of the Chinese institutions, Chinese students, overseas Chinese and our compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the United States. On the same night, the Chinese Government asked the Chinese Embassy in the United States, the Consulate-Generals and China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations to immediately adopt measures to provide all necessary assistance to the wounded compatriots.
