Tibetan Population Grows by 19% in 10 Years

The population of the Tibet Autonomous Region increased by 423,000, or 19.1%, over the past decade, according to results of the fifth regional census announced on March 30.

Currently, Tibet has a population of 2.61 million, of which 2.41 million are Tibetans, accounting for 92% of the total. The number of residents of the Han nationality stands at 155,300, or 5.9% of the total, while people from other ethnic groups come to 49,900, or 1.9%.
